OUR CLASSES
ACRO & TUMBLING
Acro is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character and its unique choreography. It is a popular dance style in amateur competitive dance as well as in professional dance theatre. Improving flexibility and learning tricks such as cheststands and walkovers right the way through to aerials, flicks and tumbles, acro is an especially challenging dance style. It requires them to be trained in both dance and acrobatic skills. Acro dancers must be in excellent physical condition as well, because acro is a physically demanding activity.
MODERN
Modern Jazz is a fun upbeat style of dance and is an umbrella over a number of jazz styles. From lending itself to Charleston, Fosse and Jazz through to a more upbeat style of dance, there is really something for everyone within Modern. This is a staple subject that I always encourage all children to take, they learn technical exercises which builds important foundations from a young age. There is also a huge fun element within Modern which is another factor that ensures children will love this style.
TAP
During Tap classes, children learn more than just how to make sounds with their feet. There are hundreds of tap steps, combinations and sounds which teach rhythm, musicality and how to count music. Pupils love tap as it’s a unique style of dance and the possibilities are literally endless. There is something new each week when learning non syllabus work, as well as covering the correct technique and basic foundations during exam work.
BALLET
Ballet is the core of all dance, and the most important style children should uptake. Ballet teaches not only pure dance technique, but musicality, use of the floor, important of the core and other body muscles and making yourself aware of time signatures within music. It is a beautiful style of dance and combines poise and grace, with a strong sturdy base of skills therefore when preformed is very easy on the eye and enjoyable to watch.
LYRICAL
Very much like ballet, lyrical is a graceful style of dance. Lyrical is adapting and growing as a dance style and can go from a very balletic lyrical style to a contemporary lyrical style. Younger children tend to combine both ballet and lyrical when they start lyrical classes and as pupils get older we introduce the sense of feeling, passion and moving with emotion, taking it to a more contemporary style of lyrical. Lyrical is a very big favourite with a lot of our students & a style we love to see them grow and develop within.
MUSICAL THEATRE & SINGING
This is genre of drama & Dance in which singing and dancing play an essential part. Children are taught from a young age about voice projection, voice control and self-confidence. This style is particularly popular in younger students but is a massively important subject to take up at any age as it teaches the aspect of performance and drama to. Children wanting to go into performing arts professionally will always be required to have musical theatre skills.
AERIAL SILKS & HOOP
Aerial workshops are held once a month on the first Sunday of every month. Aerial silks & Hoop is a type of performance in which one or more artists perform aerial acrobatics while hanging from a fabric or metal hoop. This is a great skill to have under your belt as a performer as people are always looking for special skills when hiring. It also great fun to do as a hobby and builds strength and flexibility.
